“No Place for Hate -
A Neighbourhood Watch Initiative"

Seeks to mobilize and empower residents to take a proactive stance against hate-motivated crimes, ultimately creating safer and more inclusive neighbourhoods in the City of Windsor.

The project is working to do this by:

  • Offering FREE information sessions;
    • Sessions explores what hate crimes, cyber-hate, and hate speech are and equips participants with tools and resources to respond to them;
    • Information session topics can be tailored and adapted to fit the needs of your group. They can be delivered in person (hosted at The Safety Village or brought to you!) or virtually.
  • Emphasize the importance of reporting hate-motivated crimes.
  • Streamline access to support and resources.
  • Promote Neighbourhood Watch Windsor, a free crime-prevention community resource.

This project, which will run until April 2026, is funded by the Government of Ontario's 2024-2026 Safer and Vital Communities Grant.

REPORT HATE CRIMES

  • A hate crime is defined as a criminal violation motivated by hate, based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other similar factor.

For example:

  • Physical Assault: An assault motivated by hatred, such as hitting or spitting on someone because of their religious attire or skin color.
  • Property Damage: Vandalizing a place of worship like a church, synagogue, or mosque.
  • A hate-motivated incident may be motivated by the same factors as a hate crime, but does not reach the threshold of a criminal offence. These incidents may include name calling, racial insults, or the distribution of material containing hateful language.
  • Example: A person yells a slur at someone and tells them 'go back to your country.'
